Because this version is a much darker interpretation of The Wizard of Oz, I was less inclined to watch the series. However, I watched the debut and watched the story line and characters develop to see if it drew me in. It did, but only as research for my blog. Violence, in this regard, threw off the intent of the Oz story, even with a well-designed plot.
Witches of Oz…..Tar and feathered former guard…..and the witches cauldron of suffering.
From a preview I read, it was clear the “steampunk tech” approach would set the stage and that Dorothy would be no recognizable heroine. Nothing endearing or hopeful was gleaned by the dark characters, “friend or foe.” And it seems to be trying to ride the coat tails of Game of Thrones and instead was convoluted in its mythological quest.
Since my blog is about inspiring stories, Emerald City will only be a mention, although I will continue gleaning for future posts. There have been and will continue to be other interpretations that lift people up, inspires goodness and have the potential for a happy ending.
Please let me know your thoughts or comment about the new series. I’d like to hear.
