The genius of imagination brought us to “Oz,” a magical land. Since the publication of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” in 1900 it has found success on page, on stage, and in movies, and it has left imprints on the young and old alike ever since. There were a total of 19 “Oz” books written. I am sure Mr. Baum is thrilled to see how his life’s work lives on and has morphed into new creative interpretations and inspirations.
Over the years I have heard and read many people exclaim how the movie changed their life. For myself this was true and I started taking mental notes. The story of Oz has been told in many ways over the past 12 decades. Most recently it has made a resurgence with new points of view in the stage musical “Wicked,” the Disney movie “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” and a new TV production of the iconic stage version of “The Wiz.”
And then came Star Wars, George Lucas’ Oz, re-imagined for today’s audiences. There will be much more to come, since the legend lives on.
