Love is Love, Pride Month 2026

I live in a very liberal Blue state that does celebrate diversity. As my banner says, “Love is Love” and that’s why we celebrate the marginalized. However, I peeked at the “national news” about Pride Month and it will look much different in the red states as it’s being “re-labeled” with different names, such as “fidelity month” or “Nuclear Family Month.” Some Colleges and Universities were told to remove their signs and campus posts.
I can guarantee you that there will be LOTS of Rainbows wherever you go. They cannot be silenced. In my home city they have a special “Gay Parade” which has a high attendance of participants and spectators, young and old with a “decorated naked bicycle ride.”
Now here’s a kicker. We are also a host for the FIFA World Cup and the last week of June we host Iran who has made it clear it wants “Pride” banners out of sight at the stadiums during the game. I’m sure the city can accommodate that, and other designated FIFA areas, but as soon as they leave the immediate area, they are in the public domain. And lots of rainbows everywhere. And the Iconic Space Needle flies a huge pride flag that is visible area wide.
As the summer begins, let us all strive to be kind and accept those different than ourselves. We’ve got a very busy autumn of activism and community ahead. Keep showing up wherever you can at picnics, parades, community events, neighborhood nights out.
